Quickstart Guide: what you need to know to sell your first embroidery with confidence

You just received your heartstrings kit and opened the box and….wait, what am I supposed to DO with all of this stuff?!?!? Fear not! We’ve got your back, just keep reading…

For many stylists, the idea of selling embroidery might feel complicated. But once you understand the basics, offering custom embroidery becomes your most powerful tool for creating an unforgettable client experience.

1. What's in my box?

  • 13 embroidered panels
    • 6 font styles: coquette, modern, playful, romantic, sophisticated, and timeless
    • 2 font sizes: a full size and a half size of each font
    • 1 date/subtext panel: this is the tinest writing we can do
  • 13 magnetic headers
    • The headers open so you can use the panels easily. Click here for a how-to video on using the headers properly–they’re pretty cool!
  • 1 thread swatch book
    • Standard colors:
      • diamond white = Snow White #2297
      • pale ivory = Aspen White #2574
      • jet = Jet Black #2632
    • Custom colors: the other colors in the book are all available for an upcharge

2. How much do I charge?

  • Check your email for a printable retail price sheet
  • Use the embroidery pricing calculator on the logged-out SG website for retail and the logged-in ordering portal for wholesale to put in your bride’s exact specs and get a customized price
  • The embroidery price is in addition to the cost of the piece that is being embroidered

3. What Can I Put embroidery on?

You can put embroidery on anything we make. Any veil, any cape, any wings, any scarf*, anything!

Where can’t you put embroidery?

  • Anything not made by us
  • Any already-made SG style, such as a ready-to-wear piece or a veil that your bride has already received

* we’re not 100% sure about chiffon just yet, stay tuned!

4. What types of embroidery can I offer to my bride?

Short answer: Almost anything.

But to get started, let’s stay focused on the panels you just received. You can create an heirloom by adding:

  • Names & Dates: The couple’s names, a new last name, the wedding date, or the date they met.
  • Meaningful Words: First dance song lyrics, their vows, a meaningful phrase, or an inside joke.

When you’re ready, you can add special requests like:

  • Botanicals: Match the embroidery to the bride’s bouquet or other special florals.
  • Meaningful Symbols: Think crests, pets, or even a map of where they met.
  • Custom Handwriting: Digitized versions of a loved one’s actual script.

5. What about placement?

Telling us where to put the embroidery is easy!

  • Center Bottom: Most of your brides will want their embroidery along the center bottom of their veil, a certain distance from the hem
    • Our site will guide you to provide the distance – in inches – from the bottom of the embroidery to the edge or top of the trim.
    • If you’re a visual learner, this is how you measure:
  • Everywhere Else: We can handle most placement requests – some will require an additional fee. Take a vision photo with the embroidery panel on the veil and send it to us on chat so we can customize together!

6. What is the Lead Time

We are currently requesting a 2-month lead time on embroidered pieces. Please chat with us if you have a rush bride to see if we are able to accommodate the order!

7. How Do I Introduce Embroidery To My Bride?

Don’t wait to be asked. Try some of these conversation starters to give that ‘extra mile’ styling service that brides rave about in their reviews:

  • The Secret Detail: “Since your gown is so classic and clean, we could actually hide a ‘something blue’ date or your initials in the lace of your veil. It’s like a little secret for just you and your partner that only shows up in the close-up photos.”
  • The Florist Connection: “I love the bouquet you’re planning! If you have a favorite flower from that arrangement, we can actually have it embroidered into the train of the veil so your florals and accessories ‘talk’ to each other.”
  • The Heirloom Narrative: “A lot of my brides are choosing to add their wedding date to their veil. It’s a lovely way to turn the veil into an heirloom, so if you pass it down to a sister or daughter later, your ‘chapter’ of the story is already written into the fabric.”
  • The Photo Op Suggestion: “Your photographer is going to get beautiful veil shots. Imagine how stunning it would look to have a line of your song lyrics or a meaningful quote trailing along the edge in the light.”
  • The Handwriting Tribute: “If you’re looking for a way to honor someone who can’t be there, we can take a snippet of their handwriting from an old card and have it embroidered near your hand. It’s a very subtle, beautiful way to keep them close as you walk down the aisle.”

Finally...

Custom embroidery isn’t just an add-on; it’s an emotional investment. It ensures that your bride isn’t just wearing a veil—she’s wearing her story. By offering this service, you position your boutique as a high-end, detail-oriented destination that truly understands the heart of what makes a wedding special.

I can’t wait to see what you all create!
