“Can this veil come with a blusher?” If you’re like most bridal Stylists, you get asked this question a lot. Sometimes, knowing how to add a blusher to a veil can make or break the YES moment you are trying to create, so knowing how to do it is essential.

Fortunately, adding a blusher to a veil is easy, so let’s dive right in!

STEP 1: STACK, FOLD, OR SWITCH?

The first step in adding a blusher to a veil is determining the general shape of the veil your bride is interested in. There are two general shapes that almost all veils fit into: rectangles and circles.

Look at the veil you’d like to add a blusher to. Is it more like a rectangle or more like a circle?

Stack a rectangle

If you’re starting from a veil that is more like a rectangle, a blusher can added by stacking a second shorter layer right on top of the longer layer and gathering both layers together onto a single comb, like this:

This option adds volume at the comb and keeps the trim by your bride’s face.

ON THE SALES FLOOR: Tuck a second rectangle veil comb into your bride’s hair right on top of the first comb. Don’t worry about the double combs; your bride’s veil will have a single comb with both layers gathered onto it.

Fold a circle

If the veil your bride is interested in is more like a circle, we can create the blusher layer by folding the veil in half and stitching the tulle directly to the comb, like this:

This option has little to no volume at the comb and, importantly, moves the trim so that it is no longer next to your bride’s face.

ON THE SALES FLOOR: Take the veil comb out of your bride’s hair, fold the circle veil in half at the spot that will create the correct top layer length, and hold the folded fabric up to her hair. The comb is dangling down your bride’s back, and you are holding the veil in place with your hand.

Switch between the two

It is often the case that your bride wants to switch from a rectangle shape to a circle shape, like this:

Swapping shapes is a common choice and significantly impacts the final veil’s appearance – in a beautiful way! Use our chat button (lower right corner) if you’d like our help showing your bride this option with the veils you have on hand. We’re happy to help you come up with the perfect solution!

ON THE SALES FLOOR: Take the veil comb out of your bride’s hair, fold the veil in half at the spot that will create the correct top layer length, and hold the folded fabric up to her hair. The comb is dangling down your bride’s back now, and you are holding the veil in place with your hand. It will be messy looking back there, so keep your bride focused on the front and side views of the veil, pointing out that the edge/trim is no longer near her face.

Now that you’ve ID’d which shape your bride would like her custom veil to be made in, let’s talk about the trim and any other details that might be on the veil.

STEP 2: DECIDE ON THE DETAILS

The next step in adding a blusher to a veil is to help your bride decide if she would like any details from the original design—such as trim or beading—to be on the new layer.

For example, if the original veil has scattered pearls throughout, does your bride also want the pearls on the blusher layer? If the original veil has a lace trim, does your bride want the lace to be on the blusher layer, too?

Our Makers can create virtually anything you can imagine, so this is a great time to use your art and design skills to create the perfect veil for your bride.

Now that you’ve got the shape and the details figured out, the final step is pricing.
